The group of activists led by Charles Oputa also known as Charly Boy has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to commence investigations into the alleged killings and battering of some persons by security operatives during the demolition of the Ekeukwu market in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The group under the aegis of Concerned Nigeria made the call while visiting the demolished market and families of the affected victims during the Imo market relocation.Speaking on behalf of the group, Deji Adeyanju, who is a co-convener, said: “We demand justice from the Federal Government especially as the regards the 10 years old boy that was allegedly killed by security operatives during the demolition operations.
“We also call on the President to, as a matter of urgency, set up a panel to commence investigations to ascertain the truth behind the ugly incidence.”
It could be recalled that the father of the 10-year-old boy who was shot dead at Ekeukwu market during the demolition exercise had earlier asked for justice.
The bereaved father, narrating the incident said his son came to help him pack his goods out of the shop when the soldiers shot him dead.
His words: “I told my little son to come and assist me remove my goods from the shop before the people demolishing the market got to the place.
“When we were crossing the road, we all raised our hands up but these soldiers just drove by and opened fire and shot my son in the head.
“The bullet hit him in the eye and came out from the back of his head and he fell and died.
“I want justice. I don’t want the killers of my son to go unpunished. He was just a little boy, he was not armed. I don’t know if I can bear this.”
